5 Signs It's Time to Change Jobs

5 Signs that it’s time to change jobs:

1. You’re beyond burned out and there is no vacation or break that can make you not feel the dread of going to work.

What was once a great fit might not be anymore and that is OK. Sometimes we just have to make a change and move on to not feel stagnant in our careers which also can boil over into our personal lives.

2. You’re not growing professionally or personally.

If you no longer feel a purpose in your current job, you should first make sure that your current employer can’t make accommodations to help you achieve your desired growth potential. If your employer says no or it just isn’t possible because you want to change careers then it's beyond time to move on and don’t look back.

3. Your workplace has become unhealthy.

If your current employer is constantly having you work long hours and not honoring your much deserved PTO/vacation etc. it’s time to move on. Every company has deadlines to meet and sometimes you do have to work more but if this is a constant problem, the bottom line is your employer doesn't really respect you. There are a lot of great companies that value family and a work/life balance. No matter how your workplace may have become unhealthy it’s unlikely to ever get better and you deserve better. Start looking now.

4. You’re undervalued.

You’ve gone above and beyond and are still under compensated or under appreciated in some way. Always ask your current employer first but know your worth and move on if they say no, even if they make you a counter offer you should walk away. The longer you go with lower pay the harder it’s to make up for it and any counteroffer after you’ve already asked for a higher salary should be insulting. Don’t let what’s comfortable and familiar keep you from moving on and being valued elsewhere.

5. Travel/ or Commute.

If your employer can’t accommodate less travel or work with you on your commute by letting you work remote etc. then you need to really take the spare time that you have right now, put your resume together and get it out there as fast as you can. It’s easy to get lost in this cycle due to lack of time and the exhaustion that follows. Always remember that time is something you will never get back so you must make your job search a priority and not put it on the back burner any longer.
