Should You Consider a Counteroffer?

Take a deep breath because Counteroffers are stressful for everyone involved.

The most important question to ask yourself is "Why am I looking in the first place?"

If more money is your only motivating factor, then ask for a raise. If you already did this and it takes a competing offer for your employer to take appropriate action then you must ask yourself, "Where was this money the first time?"

"Nearly 80% of senior executives and 60% of HR leaders cited diminished trust and compromised reputation among the executives and board members of the employee’s current company." - Harvard Business Review

A Counteroffer might even come with a new job title or some sort of new conditions that were never disclosed as a possibility until now. These are short-term solutions for your employer to keep you, not an integrity based raise or promotion for your career progression. Take a deep breath and remember change is a part of life that is never comfortable.
