5 Alternative Work Arrangements to Hire + Retain Top Talent

Alternative work arrangements are all about allowing some sort of flexibility.

The Business component behind adopting this mindset both in hiring and retaining talent is that if employees can handle personal responsibilities in their personal lives they will be more productive at work.

There are multiple ways this can be done without adopting a strictly remote/ work from home policy.

  1. Flextime - employees are expected to be on the job during certain core hours of the workday. They're given the opportunity to choose (within certain parameters) their own start and stop times — as long as they work the required number of hours each day/week.

  2. Compressed workweek - Simply put this means working more hours each day but less hours each week. The most common example of this model is a 4 day work week - 10 hour work days

  3. Job Sharing - two people work part-time schedules to complete the work one person would do in a single full-time job.

  4. Limited Hour work week - otherwise known as Part Time is perfect for attracting students, parents or candidates that don't want full time hours or full time benefits

  5. Remote work - Either fully remote or a hybrid work model. Employees who are deemed responsible to work remotely and whose job allows for it. A hybrid model still allows for in office collaboration while a fully remote work from home position typically doesn't include an office. Fully remote positions might come with travel or other ways to collaborate like the use of co operative workspaces when needed.
