How To Write a Post-Interview Thank You Note

Thank You notes are not dead and are always appreciated. If you don't have the hiring managers email go ahead and email a note to your recruiter and they will pass it along for you. We have included some sample emails and suggestions below.

Here is what you can include:

  • Express thanks for the interviewer’s time.

  • Briefly reinforce why you’re interested in the job and why you’d be a good match for the team/company.

  • If you have something personal in common that came up in the interview, go ahead and mention it (even if it's a college football team that you have in common; Go Dawgs!).

  • Offer to answer any questions they might have.

  • Add relevant examples of your work (like drawings from a portfolio) if applicable especially if you learned something new from the interview that you have experience in.

  • Close your email by reiterating your appreciation for the interview and asking about next steps.

Dear _______

I just wanted to thank you for inviting me to your office today. It was great to hear about (Company) goals for the design and engineering team, and all of the exciting projects in the pipeline.

(Company) seems like a wonderful place to work—and not just because you mentioned some great perks! I really admire the mission and leadership that drives your business, and look forward to the opportunity to work with your team.

Please let me know if there’s anything else you need from me to move the process forward.

Have a great rest of your week, Name
